(Review for Nintendo Switch)

Hong Kong Massacre is a top down shooter that you can tell is inspired by classic movies and games. It drops you into a revenge story with lots of brutality and blood. Think of one of those movies from 80s where you break into stashhouses or enemy compounds. This is the game version of that.

You take on the role of a former cop out for revenge. Your partner was murdered and you take it upon yourself to get justice. There’s definitely a lot of firepower in this game. 9mm, rifles and other guns are obtainable and react more like the real versions and rapid fire. Tons of slow motion action on death including closeups when you die or at the end of stages.

The game does give you some time to slow down. You don’t have to rush into every fight. You can hide behind things, duck, dodge and even surprise enemies by jumping through windows or shooting enemies through them.

From the look of the game, I’m reminded of Hotline Miami. If I was to put a rating on it, I’d say 7/10. I enjoyed the game but like with everything, your opinion may vary.
